Continuing our journey to fish the many waters of Harriman State Park, for this trip we decided to meet up at Lake Welch, which is a man made lake in Harriman. It was expanded with the completion of a dam in 1942. In addition to fishing, Lake Welch is a popular destination in the summer as it has a .5 mile Swimming Beach, which is the largest in the Park. It also offers hiking trails and other outdoor activities.

The three of us started fishing near the dam where Phil had already caught a nice bass.

As the wind picked up we looked for a cross way to reduce the wind impact. After catching a few sunfish, my son started smiling after his line went tight. What was thought to be a nice size sunfish turned out to be the largest fish of the day, a largemouth bass.

For the rest of the day I had to endure comments about who caught what and who was the better fisherman, whom in the family would be invited to the next Harriman outing, etc. Just the normal chatter between competitive fishermen.

Good thing Harriman has another 20 or so waters to fish. I have time to get back on the invite list. 😎
