On the continuing quest to fish the many waters of Harriman, today we target Lake Tiorati, which means “blue like sky” in Algonquin. It is one of the lakes that make up the lakes of Seven Lakes Drive in Harriman State Park. It is a man-make lake that covers about 300 acres and at its deepest point is about 60 feet deep. Non motorized boats are allowed and a boat permit is required.

Lake Tiorati

Lake Tiorati is very popular for summertime activities. In the summer there is an admission fee that gives you access to parking, picnic tables, grills, and most importantly, access to the beach. The weekends and holidays in the summer attract a large crowd.

If you possess a valid NYS fishing license, you can also fish in Lake Tiorati. You normally see a lot of people fishing off the rocks around the lakes’ approximate 3 miles of shore access. Lake Tiorati offers good fishing for largemouth bass, chain pickerel, white and yellow perch and bluegills.

On this weekday, with the beach closed, there were only a handful of visitors accessing the post Labor Day free parking. Phil and I decided to have a quick lunch, having fished some other lakes earlier in the day. After lunch we stopped by the Ranger Station to discuss places to fish.

In addition to getting some advise as where to fish, we were also informed of the various wildlife that have been spotted in the area. Bear, bald eagles, deer, bobcats, beavers, coyote, to name a few.

Phil and I fished the shoreline and caught some fish. It was a very relaxing day as we discussed the next lake to visit within Harriman.
