I am on my journey to fish as many bodies of water in Harriman State Park as possible.  Today we are fishing Lake Skannatati one of over 30 bodies of water in Harriman State Park in New York. The reservoir is home to bass, panfish and trout and has an median depth of less than 15 feet.

Today DogNme are  blessed to be accompanied by my youngest son who has been fishing since the age of  18 months. We decide to walk around to the path left of the parking lot, to look for some seclusion.  The good thing about the parking lot  is that it allows me to bring my mom fishing and she does not have to walk too far to engage in a fierce battle with a member of the sunfish family.

As we follow the well worn path around the lake we transverse a stream of two.  Dog looks at me as I guess to remind me of the flooded streams we had to forge in hiking into Siamese Ponds Area in the Adirondacks.

We come across a secluded spot with down tress around. I fish on top as my son fishes deep in our normal practice to locate where the fish are.  We both miss a few hits and then I connect on a fish. Initially I think that it is a bass, but in a quick and explosive leap, I smile as I see the coloring of a beautiful brown tout.  After a brief struggle and a quick photo, I return him to the cool waters maintained by water flowing into the lakes from mountain streams.

I see other spots that I will return to fish after completing my goal of fishing more waters in Harriman State Park.

“get out to get in”………..
