Many states offer free fishing days during the annual National Fishing and Boating Week.

Normally, outside of these events, most residents and non-residents must have some type of license to fish legally in public waters in the respective states.

These events attract those local residents who might want to try fishing for the first time; those who want to introduce others to fishing; or those that want to renew their own “lost” love for the sport. It also attracts folk that would like to try fishing in other states.
