Canopus Lake is one of several fishing possibilities within Fahenstock State Park.  Canopus is the largest of the lakes and boat rental is available, with easy access.  So it is a good place to take kids as there are places where you can fish from the shore.  You have the opportunity to fish for a variety of fish; Bluegill, Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Perch, Chain Pickerel and Black Crappie.  Live bait such as night crawlers, red worms, and shiners are effective as well as the normal artificial lures for the species you are fishing for.
