The Prospect Park Alliance is sponsoring their annual Earth Day celebration at the Audubon Center on April 22. Two of the sessions are of interest as they target individuals that are interested in learning about the fundamentals of fishing. The Alliance and the city do a great job of promoting and supporting fishing events for the public.
Earth Day in Prospect Park
Prospect Park is one of the premium fishing locations within NYC. The lake encompasses approximately 60 acres. It is a catch and release lake and many reports of bass weighing in excess of 5 pounds being caught there. You do need a valid NYS Freshwater Fishing License to fish there if you are 16 years of age or older.
Fishing Lessons, 1–4 pm: Enjoy this fun introduction to catch-and-release fishing. The Alliance staff will teach participants how to tie a fishing knot, attach bait and cast a line to a try and hook a fish!
Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore or spreading mulch
